This proposal merely offers a further procedure to tick the appropriate boxes. Apologies for the cynicism.

Comment on Will a four-day week work for construction? by jackarnold29 https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/cn-intelligence/workforce/will-a-four-day-week-work-for-construction-20-09-2024/#comment-2061 Thu, 26 Sep 2024 13:44:18 +0000 https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/?p=506174#comment-2061 A 4-day week only really applies to salaried staff. You need to consider the implications of day rates / price work, and the hourly paid operatives. Additionally, as soon as the programme slips, 4 days working is out of the window.

Comment on Government offers redundancy pay advice for ISG staff by Dee Field https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/financial/administrations/government-offers-redundancy-pay-for-isg-staff-24-09-2024/#comment-2060 Tue, 24 Sep 2024 19:37:24 +0000 https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/?p=506652#comment-2060 Feel for the suppliers who are owed millions like Go Green who may not face financial trouble due to this huge industry collapse from ISG. Talk is that they will be massively affected as a key supplier it’s not good, and the current government saw this coming from ISG so why didn’t they step in? Next one to watch is Kier their in an even worse situation…

The fall out from the ISG collapse could cause a huge knock on effect to suppliers who are not going to get paid. £3 million is a lot to be not getting back!

Comment on T-level results ‘do not paint a positive picture’, warns Farmer by denise@denbre.com https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/skills/t-level-results-do-not-paint-a-positive-picture-warns-farmer-28-08-2024/#comment-2057 Wed, 28 Aug 2024 12:14:00 +0000 https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/?p=504845#comment-2057 Enough said. Whatever the routes into construction, the lack of long term experience in the workplace as an apprentice / trainee is, and remains, the real problem. The barriers are too many and currently too entrenched to get a person from T-level or diploma level to qualified if they cannot continue into long term employment as an apprentice or trainee.

Same old, same old.

Let’s see what the investigation comes up with ..

Comment on How to best allocate risk in construction contracts by edward@edwardjohnfulton.uk https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/sections/long-reads/opinion/how-to-best-allocate-risk-in-construction-contracts-12-06-2024/#comment-2052 Fri, 21 Jun 2024 20:55:54 +0000 https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/?p=500681#comment-2052 I am sure the thousands of two / three tier sub-sub-contractors / supply chain will disagree, the only risk allocation that they are aware of is simply called ‘subbie bashing’, as it is they that ultimately pay the price.

Comment on Are apprenticeship targets harming the sector? by denise@denbre.com https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/skills/are-apprenticeship-targets-harming-the-sector-29-05-2024/#comment-2051 Fri, 31 May 2024 09:47:35 +0000 https://www.constructionnews.co.uk/?p=499340#comment-2051 An excellent article, highlighting issues surrounding contruction apprenticeships.

There is a problem with the agency pros and cons section.
1 ATAs (Apprenticeship Training Agencies) are now defunct and were replaced by FJAAs (FlexiJob Apprentice Agencies)
2. FJAAs are not a Local Labour Agency and construction companies do not have the type of issues mentioned with a FJAA as they might have with a Local Labour Agency. It is very misleading to conflate the two.
